Jane Berry Sex Therapist
Jane graduated in 2010 with her Bachelor’s degree in social work and the day after her final exam started working as a Sexual Health Educator. This opportunity gave her a chance to learn more about the public’s attitudes toward sexual health, gender and sexual oppression and discrimination.
Her varied and submersive experiences in inpatient psychiatry and family violence developed her skills and passion for these complex issues. Forever an advocate for the marginalized and oppressed, her experience working in regulation with the Alberta College of Social Workers as the Competence Program Coordinator and Hearings Director solidified her desire to return to school and complete her Master’s degree in Social Work (Clinical Specialization).
Jane’s thesis research (link to thesis please) was inspired by the social work community’s need to address sexual health issues with competence and confidence. Jane saw a gap in social work research and education and set out to shine light on this integral part of human nature for social work and beyond.
Jane is also pleased to be a sessional instructor for the University of Calgary faculty of Social Work, Edmonton division and is passionate about inspiring social work students to practice with integrity and an aim for social justice.
Recently, Jane left a long-term career as a mental health therapist in primary care to pursue an opportunity with the Canadian Armed Forces, Department of National Defense. She is also developing her private practice as a therapist who cares, supports and empowers clients to make meaningful change.
